Objective

To provide a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment on campus by preventing and addressing incidents of sexual harassment, in accordance with institutional policies and the law.

Responsibilities
  • Prevent sexual harassment through awareness programs, sensitization sessions, and preventive measures.
  • Receive and address complaints of sexual harassment with sensitivity, confidentiality, and urgency.
  • Conduct fair and impartial inquiries into complaints received.
  • Support victims by ensuring access to counseling, legal aid, or other necessary assistance.
  • Educate students and staff about their rights and responsibilities related to sexual harassment.
  • Submit reports to the institution and relevant authorities, as required.
Things to Consider
  • Ensure confidentiality and protection of the complainant and witnesses throughout the inquiry process.
  • Follow the principles of natural justice, non-discrimination, and fairness in every case.
  • Maintain zero tolerance for any form of victim-blaming, retaliation, or intimidation.
  • Ensure diversity and gender representation in committee composition.
Protocol to be Followed
  1. Committee Composition

    The committee must include at least one external member (preferably from an NGO or legal background) and ensure adequate gender representation as per UGC/PoSH guidelines.

  2. Complaint Registration

    Complaints can be submitted in writing, through a designated online form, or by meeting the committee in person.

    Ensure a safe, private space for complainants to share their grievances.

  3. Initial Response

    Acknowledge the complaint within 48 hours and initiate preliminary assessment.

    Provide the complainant with information on process, rights, and support resources.

  4. Inquiry Process
    • Form an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) or use the standing committee to conduct inquiry.
    • Notify the respondent.
    • Allow both parties to present evidence and witnesses.
    • Complete the inquiry within 90 days.
  5. Report Submission

    Submit a final report with findings and recommendations to the Principal/Head of Institution within 10 days of inquiry completion.

  6. Action & Follow-up

    Based on the report, appropriate disciplinary or corrective actions must be implemented.

    Conduct follow-up with the complainant to ensure no retaliation or ongoing distress.

  7. Awareness & Training
    • Conduct regular sensitization sessions, workshops, and campaigns.
    • Display anti-sexual harassment policies prominently on campus and digital platforms.
